KCT Trading is a Thapar Group company which is
managed by professionally qualified
directors and employees.
The Chairman, Mr. Inder Mohan Thapar,
is a man of great vision and foresight. He
consolidated KCT Coals Sales, augmenting
existing businesses and diversifying into
both allied and sometimes unrelated
businesses. A pioneer in the field of coal
mining, he actively ran and oversaw the
running of high quality and efficient mines,
producing both coking and non-coking coal,
in diverse locations across the country. A
captain of industry, he has held various
positions including:
- 1957-58 – Chairman, Indian Mining
Federation;
- 1957-68 – Member of Government of India
Committees: Coal Advisory Council, Iron &
Steel Advisory Council, Port Commissioner’s
Work Marine, etc;
- 1957 – India’s representative, to ILO
Tripartite Technical Meeting of Mines,
Switzerland;
- 1959 – India’s representative, to ILO
Industrial Committee on Coal Mines,
Switzerland;
- 1968 – President, Indian Chamber of
Commerce, Kolkata;
- 1968-73 – Member of Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI);
- Present – Fellow of the Geological
Mining and Metallurgical Society of India.
After nationalisation of coal mines in 1973,
he concentrated and improved on the group’s
paper trading, construction and
manufacturing activities. A selfless man,
welfare of the employees has always been a
top priority and his contribution to society
well acknowledged. Mr I M Thapar, with over
70 years of experience across a diverse
range of industries, brings clear vision and
sound guidance to scale the Company to new
heights.
Vice Chairperson and Managing Director, Mrs. Priya Saran Chaudhri, has over 16 years of
experience in the paper industry and has
been executing the day-to-day activities of
the Company since its inception. She is a
B.A graduate in Economics (and International
affairs) from Brandias University, Boston,
USA. She started her career in the paper
industry in 1991, when she joined Ballarpur
Industries in its Finance department. She
then went on to head up the printing
business division of KCT & Bros. (C.S) Ltd.
in 1994 and later she headed up the Paper
Trading Division of KCT & Bros. (C.S) Ltd.
(the Company) in 2003.
Director, Mrs. Neena Saran, is a Graduate in
Economics from Lady Brabourne College,
Kolkata, India. An active board member, Mrs
Saran also acts as a trustee for the I. M.
Thapar Foundation and enjoys other
philanthropic pursuits.
Director, Mrs. Roopa Mitra, is a High Court
lawyer by profession and employed by Khaitan
& Co. in Kolkata, a highly respected law
firm and counted among the oldest in the
country (founded in 1911). Mrs Mitra
provides legal aide to the Company as
required.
Additionally, the Company’s management team
is comprised of a company secretary,
division heads for each of its four main
offices and its qualified chartered
accountants.
